Review I
Livingston researched the history of pollination in northern Myanmar in 2012. The researcher wanted to give appropriate evidence to the thought by many scientists that insect pollination was key to the significant spreading of flowers in the Cretaceous age in 66-145 million years ago. According to Livingston, the scientists lacked solid evidence to support their assumptions. The study investigated whether the amber-encased beetle may have been one of the first insects to pollinate flowers (Livingston).
Palaeontologists studying the existence and characteristics of various insects found out that the beetle had special features that could in the pollination process. This insect had a curved body and head that could enhance undistracted reaching of flowers for feeding. The beetle had a mouth with appendages similar to those modern pollinators. This shape of the mouth made the process of carrying pollen grains from one flower to the other easy. The significance evidence proving the participation of the insect in the process is “golden pollen covering its thorax, abdomen, and legs” (Livingston). However, the research faced a major challenge in analyzing the availability of 62 pollen grains stuck in a 4 long millimetre insect. The study could not identify the exact flowering plant pollinated by the insect, regardless of its close relation to the eudicot group.
The results have a significant impact on the scientist who lacked the knowledge since they can give evidence that insects facilitate the growth of various flowers through pollination. This research is also important to various learners and tutors because it provides facts on the disturbing question of the triggers of pollination. This article is relevant because it gives an overview of the relationship between flowering plants and insects. I understand why most insects keep on moving from one plant to another and the cause of rapid growth in various places.
