Cultural Standardized Unreason
In anthropology, 'culture' means different ways of life of individuals and social legacies one might acquire from a specific group of people. Culture can also be regarded as part of the environmental creation of human beings. As one tries to find the true meaning of culture, they are more likely to develop different variations of historical backgrounds of individuals and literature. However, Kluckhohn defines culture as a phenomenon that consists of explicit and implicit patterns of behavior acquired and transmitted in different forms of symbols and constitutes the distinctive achievement of a specific group (Kluckhohn, 2017). These ways of life explain why the Chinese dislike milk and milk products or why other communities trace their descent through the father. In what Kluckhohn describes as 'cultural standard unreason,' individuals adopt behavioral traits from their environment unconsciously, and these behaviors can be understood and predicted if we know their parent's, ancestorial, or society's design of life. Through cultural unreason, even the most individualized person can make patterns, not of their own making (Kluckhohn, 2017). For example, they brush their teeth after breakfast, put on pants and not grass skirts, and have three meals a day. Even without knowing a person's life history, these patterns and countless other regularities are formed in our thinking processes because of human culture since every culture is designed to perpetuate a group and its solidarity to meet an orderly way of life for biological need satisfaction. Since no one is indifferent to their culture, this paper will investigate regularities in Dominican culture as evidence of Kluckhon's 'cultural standardized unreason' hypothesis.
