Accordingly, one of the famous short stories written by Jewelle Gomez (n.d.) was entitled Off-Broadway: 1971. This short story focuses on the life of Gilda, an immortal vampire, as she lived throughout various historical events in the past, present, and even the future, spanning from the years 1850 to 2050. Summary
As stated earlier, Gomez's (n.d.) novel entitled Off-Broadway focuses on the life of a vampire for 200 years. In the beginning, Gilda was an enslaved person who was transformed by the same woman that took her in after she escaped from bondage. After the woman's death that took her in, Gilda started her journey where she met various individuals such as Bird, Sorel, Eleanor, Aurelia, and Julius, to name a few, who had developed a significant relationship with Gilda. Throughout the years, Gilda also developed various talents and professions and became a parlor owner in the 1950s, a lounge singer-songwriter in the 1980s, and a romance novelist in the 21st century, until humans had discovered vampires and started hunting them for the gift of immortality.
