Abstract

Skills, knowledge, and experience in handling various clinical scenarios are important in real-life applications for nursing practitioners. Clinical laboratory practice (CLPs) are believed to be vital in instilling the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience in inexperienced nurses. In their quantitative study “Training Nursing Skills,” Solvik and Struksnes (2018) analyzed the impacts that CLPs could have on learning nurses. This paper critiques the study through its elements, including the background, objectives, methods, findings, and conclusion. Ultimately, the findings of the study could be employed to revitalize patient outcomes in clinical settings.

A more detailed approach to eliminating clinical errors should emanate from professional development. Preparation among healthcare practitioners before facing patients is a basic requirement in pursuing patient safety. Clinical laboratories encompass a wide range of procedures that healthcare professionals can employ to emulate real-life applications. The laboratories are equipped with resources and professionals to aid the young professionals in key operational activities, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients. In medical parlance, debates have arisen on whether CLPs are important to the quality of outcomes in healthcare facilities. In the study “Training Nursing Skills,” the findings cement the need to emphasize CLP, especially among inexperienced nurses. If determined to be effective, more healthcare facilities must be encouraged to accommodate CLPs within their operations to ensure higher patient safety indices.
Objectives
