Leung et al. (2020), "Effectiveness of Parenting Program for Macau Shift Work Parents: Randomized Controlled Trial."
1 Describe the type of research
* The study is applied research. It aims at answering a specific question to solve the problem of parenting in Macau. Due to the busy schedule at work, parents in Macau do not have enough time with their children prompting the development of the Happy Parenting: Round-the-Clock Parenting (HPRCP) program for parents. This study tests the effectiveness of this program for Macau parents.
* The research was a quantitative study. It used numbers to pursue its objectives where parents were subjected to controlled conditions and outcomes stored in numerical data.
* The study is longitudinal research. It uses the same sample throughout the study, subjecting it to different tests. This qualifies the study to be longitudinal because it does not source for different participants every time it carries out a study.
* This study is evaluation research. It investigates the effectiveness of the (HPRCP) program to determine its effectiveness in parenting.
2 Identifying the hypotheses
Hypothesis 1: The intervention group participants would report lower child behavior problems than control group participants at post-intervention.
IV: Happy Parenting: Round-the-Clock Parenting (HPRCP) program
DV: Child behavior problems
Relationship (R) between IV and DV: Happy Parenting: Round-the-Clock Parenting (HPRCP) program lowers child behavior problems.
Hypothesis 2: The intervention group participants would report lower parenting stress and less use of dysfunctional parenting practices than control group participants at post-intervention.
IV: Happy Parenting: Round-the-Clock Parenting (HPRCP) program
DV: Parenting stress and less use of dysfunctional parenting practices
Relationship (R) between IV and DV: Happy Parenting: Round-the-Clock Parenting (HPRCP) program significantly lowers parenting stress and less use of dysfunctional parenting practices
Hypothesis 3: The intervention group participants would report higher endorsement of emotion coaching parenting style and parental acceptance of negative emotion and lower endorsement of parental rejection of negative emotion and feelings of uncertainty/ineffectiveness in emotion socialization than control group participants at post-intervention.
IV: Happy Parenting: Round-the-Clock Parenting (HPRCP) program
DV: emotion coaching parenting style and parental acceptance of negative emotion, parental rejection of negative emotion and feelings of uncertainty/ineffectiveness in emotion socialization
Relationship (R) between IV and DV: Happy Parenting: Round-the-Clock Parenting (HPRCP) program leads to a higher endorsement of emotion coaching parenting style and parental acceptance of negative emotion as well as a lower endorsement of parental rejection of negative emotion and feelings of uncertainty/ineffectiveness in emotion socialization than control group participants at post-intervention.
3 The type of research design the researchers used
The researchers used a parallel randomized controlle...
