The article provides detailed bibliography of Wilfred Owen, a renowned poet. Winfred Edward Salter Owen was born in March 1893 in Oswestry to his parents Thomas Owen and Susan Owen. Owen was a British poet, who wrote British poetry and accounts of World War I. he wrote his work in one year between August 1917 and September 1918. He died in 1918, at the age of 25, and by the time of his death, only five poems were published. Owen wrote Dulce et Decorum Est in 1917 at Craiglockhart War Hospital narrating to his mother ( earlier version) the nature of the Somme battle. He suffered shell shock and was admitted to the hospital, where he composed the poem.

The article by British Library highlights the intention and relevance of the poem Dulce Et Decorum Est by Winfred. The purpose of the poem was to let people know and understand the condition soldier had to experience in World War I. Owen held sentiments that young men were not given all information about the situation in the war and thus he wanted them to know. he argued that young men were deceived to sacrifice themselves to protect their country. Owen highlighted the harsh struggles soldiers underwent in the war and uses a story of a soldier’s torturing death and describes the trauma the event caused. Further, he uses a quotation from Horace, a Roman poet show the difference between the glorious image of war presented and the reality.
