The COVID-19 pandemic overhauled many experiences and expectations, changing the landscape of grieving. The article gives a view of the role of norms amid a pandemic, using the case of the COVID-19 pandemic. From a sociological lens, the objective was to explore the role of the Covid-19 pandemic in shaping grief experiences alongside social norms and values. Additionally, the author analyzed challenges faced by the grievers during the pandemic to strengthen support policies and plans targeting bereaved people during pandemics. During the pandemic, the introduction of lockdowns in many regions subjected individuals to a lonely grieving experience. Some who could not experience grief alone experienced profound stress, and others, in the worst cases, committed suicide. People process grief differently, and the availability of several support systems gives grievers several options. The highlight finding was that grief processing between individuals and groups is diverse, hence the need for timely, comprehensive, constant support. The importance of socio-cultural environment during grieving came out so clearly. In conclusion, healthcare professionals and other advisors must explore more support avenues for the bereaved.
