Select 3 sources relevant to your research topic: 1 scholarly article specifically about Canada’s indigenous communities published in a Canadian scholarly journal between 2011-2020; 1 newspaper article published in Canadian news media between 2017 – 2020; 1 up-to-date Canadian web source on TRC Calls to Action (2015-2020).
Formulate a preliminary research question based on the sources you have selected
Write an annotated bibliography for each source. The sentences should describe what the source is about, explain the significance and strengths of the source and discuss why this source is useful for your research inquiry project and final report. You must include APA citations for all sources.

Write a proposal for your essay (one or two paragraphs). What is the significance of safeguarding and promoting indigenous languages through the enactment of the Aboriginal Languages Act in Canada?
Taylor, B. (2017). Toward Reconciliation: What do the Calls to Action Mean for Early Childhood Education? Journal of Childhood Studies, 42 (1), 48-53.
This article explains how the call to action 14 of Canada’s TRC relates to early childhood education. The call to action 14 requires the federal government to enact an Aboriginal Languages Act to strengthen the native language in the Country. The significance of this article is that it maintains language that is consistent with the TRC of Canada’s calls to action by using the term ‘‘aboriginal’’ people to refer to native Canadians (Taylor, 2017). Its strength is that it firmly explains the importance of protecting and safeguarding the right to aboriginal languages defined in the call to action 14. This article is useful for the research inquiry because it directly answers the research question: - What is the significance of safeguarding and promoting indigenous languages through the enactment of the Aboriginal Languages Act in Canada? According to Taylor (2017), exposing children to their heritage language helps them form their identity and connection to their land.

This article outlined that indigenous languages are a significant part of Canada's cultural and aboriginal identity. Therefore, the Canadian government must commit itself to safeguard and protecting indigenous languages by all means possible. According to CTV News (2019), the Indigenous Language Act proposed in the Call to Action 14 of the TRC of Canada aims to revive the culture. The significance of this article is that it talks about strengthening indigenous culture through the promotion of aboriginal languages in Canada (CTV News, 2019). Its strength is that it focuses on tabling the Aboriginal Language bill to facilitate the use of indigenous languages and promote indigenous culture. This source is useful for my research inquiry project because it is connected to the TRC’s calls to action 14 on the rights of indigenous people.
