The purpose of this cross-sectional observation survey study was to investigate the associations between hypertension and a priori established lifestyle risk factors such as Mediterranean diet adherence and weight status in a representative sample of Greek adults from the general sample taking part in the Hellenic National Nutrition and Health Survey (HNNHS). Inclusion criteria included men aged over 19 years and non-lactating or pregnant mothers. Exclusion criteria included breastfeeding and pregnant mothers, non-Greek speakers, members of the armed forces, institutionalized persons living in nursing homes, hospice centers, rehabilitation centers, monasteries, prisons, and psychiatric institutions, and those unable to give informed consent such as persons with psychiatric conditions, mental impairment or drug abuse.
