Research proposal

Think about what digital community (or local social site) you might want to explore. Consider this community/site from the point of view of someone in your own field of study (Business Commerce). For example, what might a person from the field of accounting; international business; health; environmental studies; children’s studies; psychology; have to say (write) about this digital community (or local social site)? What aspect would they be interested in/concerned about/impressed by/critical of? 

Possible examples of digital communities:

- Social media platforms: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snap Chat, Tik Tok and so on. For instance, an Instagram page of a celebrity

Important: Don't use your friends' profiles or your own profile. This violates the users' privacy. Use only the public profiles and forums!

- News media - comments section

- Film review/discussion forums. For example, imdb - users' reviews section

Don’t provide personal information about the users

Purpose:

Identify your topic and research question, outline the plan or the research, propose 1 or 2 academic sources that you want to use in the research, analyze your data and provide preliminary observation results.

Formatting:

500 words not including references, Times new roman, size 12 font, double spaced, cover page

Research proposal: that provides;

(A) Introduction: topic rationale that explains your topic and why it is important;

(B) Brief outline;

(C) Suggested research method, that is, description of data source(s) and preliminary analysis of the collected data;

(D) APA references for your proposed sources

More Detailed Instructions:

Based on the brainstorming activities that you have completed to identify your topic, research question, key words, and possible sources, write an approximately 500-words-long proposed plan of your research. This proposal will include the following components:

1. Introduction that provides a general background and briefly explains what digital or local social site/community you would like to explore, what the topic and focus of your research are, and why this is an important topic to conduct a research on. To provide the background of your topic, you are strongly recommended to use relevant and specific information and synthesize academic sources that you are planning to use in your report. The introduction will end with a clear statement of your research question and thesis statement

2. Brief outline of your report that explains what sections your report includes and what sources you use to explain each section

3. Suggested research method that describes how you are going to conduct an observation of the digital or local social site/community and what aspects of this site/community you will focus on. You are strongly recommended to include description and analysis of some preliminary observations

4. APA references for the proposed sources

Content & Structure:

Introduction:

-Provides a general background and briefly explains what digital or social site/community you would like to explore, what the topic and focus of your research are, and why this is an important topic to conduct a research on;

-Use relevant examples from your 1-2 sources

-Ends with the statement of the research question & preliminary thesis statement

Brief outline of your report:

-Explains what sections your report includes and what sources you use to explain each section

Research method:

-Describes what aspects of the digital community you will conduct your research on/  focus on

-Includes description and analysis of some preliminary observations

-Introduction:

Topic is clearly stated, explained and captures the reader’s attention;

Research question is specific and appropriate for the length of the paper;

Thesis statement articulates a clear and relevant argument/position;

Ideas demonstrate critical and in-depth understanding of the topic

-The section of the proposed outline of the report are logically organize and clearly connected to the research question.

-Suggested research method:

The methodology clearly identifies the digital or local social site/community and the aspects of this site/community that you are focusing on;

-The methodology includes some preliminary observations and their description/analysis
