Identification of Focus for Community Teaching
Epidemiological Rationale for Topic
Health promotion is essential for every society. This concept enables individuals to control and enhance their health (Frost et al., 2017). In California, 7.4 million adults were confirmed obese in the period 2011 to 2012. The statistics continue to increase daily. Although this challenge is common among the population, it disproportionally impacts the poor and persons of color. Data collected during the period mentioned above revealed that Indian Americans and African Americans have higher number of patients than the whites. Additionally, the number of adults with obesity increased from 19% in 2001 to 25% in the period 2011 to 2012 (Wolstein et al., 2015). Based on these trends, there is a need to enhance healthy living in the area.
Readiness for Learning
Multiple factors would indicate readiness to learn by the target aggregate. One of the aspects entails the motivation to listen to what is taught, which is an experiential element. Little anxiety would mean that people are comfortable with what is shared. This is a significant indicator of emotional readiness to learn.
Learning Theory to Be Utilized
The theory to be utilized in the teaching plan is the transformative perspective. This perception posits that new data can change people's worldviews when their knowledge and life experiences are paired with reflection (Mezirow, 2018). The theory will be applied in sharing information in terms of health promotion models. The assumption will be that the residents will change their way of life and embrace healthy living upon sharing information.
Goal: The plan's objectives include attaining longer lives based on the quality of life for all and offering preventive remedies that cater to residents' conditions like HIV/AIDS. The above aims align with HP2020 objectives that advocate achieving high-quality living free of disability, preventable diseases, and premature death.
