Change Proposal Health, Medicine, Nursing Research Proposal
In this assignment, students will pull together the change proposal project components they have been working on throughout the course to create a proposal inclusive of sections for each content focus area in the course. At the conclusion of this project, the student will be able to apply evidence-based research steps and processes required as the foundation to address a clinically oriented problem or issue in future practice.
Students will develop a 1,250-1,500 word paper that includes the following information as it applies to the problem, issue, suggestion, initiative, or educational need profiled in the capstone change proposal:
Background
Problem statement
Purpose of the change proposal
PICOT
Literature search strategy employed
Evaluation of the literature
Applicable change or nursing theory utilized
Proposed implementation plan with outcome measures
Identification of potential barriers to plan implementation, and a discussion of how these could be overcome
Appendix section, if tables, graphs, surveys, educational materials, etc. are created
Review the feedback from your instructor on the Topic 3 assignment, PICOT Statement Paper, and Topic 6 assignment, Literature Review. Use the feedback to make appropriate revisions to the portfolio components before submitting.

The ability of a hospital or clinic to provide the best care for its patients means that a proper and healthy staff is required which means that staff should be capable of handling issues affecting the people and their capacity should be sufficient to provide better health services to the people (Drennan and Ross, 2016). Nurses are vital parts in making sure patients are settled in the hospital therefore nurse shortage affects the well-being, settlement, and functioning of hospitals, according to Bobbi and Edward, 2002). Nurse shortage is a problem that has affected the United Nations for a long time with many determinants and factors brewing the problem. Drennan and Ross, (2016) argue that the nursing shortage is bound to increase with an increase in nurse demand but with low supply hence putting clinics in a bad situation.
The nursing shortage has become an overgrowing issue in the country thus affecting the functioning of hospitals. Factors that cause nurse shortage include high turnover rates where nurses resign from their profession, the aging population especially among registered nurses and low population of nurse graduates graduating from nursing schools. Stress and violence experienced by the nurses especially violence and abuse from patients lead to nurse shortage in healthcare centers (Cox, Willis and Coustasse, 2014) making nurses dissatisfied with their jobs due to stress. Low salary or income with the changing economic factors also leads to the nursing shortage. Understaffing of nurses causes health problems to nurses because of pressure and long hours of standing lead to blood circulation problems (Atefi et al, 2014). Apart from patients, this shortage affects nurses as well because with high turnover rates few remain and the pressure falls on them to take care of patients. Some of the pressures that nurses face include the stress of taking care of many beds of patients than the recommended amount, salary may be low compared to the work done and there is the risk of contracting diseases at the workplace.
This change proposal aims at preventing future problems that arise due to the nursing shortage in hospitals and clinics. As it is the problem is becoming very common with young people running away from the profession because of its demanding nature. This change proposal will try to create a place where nurses are appreciated and their work made easier with the help of the evidence-based interventions which sees to it that patients are involved in the care the hospital is supposed to provide for them.
The PICOT statement identified nursing shortage as a problem that affects clinics, hospitals, patients and nurses at large. A recommendation of the evidence-based program as an intervention was done that will aim at ensuring that quality service is administered to patients. Evidence-based program intervention emphasizes the use of existing literature on nurse care, clinical experiences and the preference of patients to foster quality care in clinics. Healthcare places or institutions that promote the use of the evidence-based practice to their nurses promote quality services and it may take over a year to implement and run because the staff must be famili...
