Should Marijuana be Legal?
Marijuana should not be made legal. The legalization of marijuana is simply a recent trend that remains controversial. Some people advocate for the legalization of the drug because it could lead to the growth of any nation’s GPD, cure, and reduce the severity of cancer among and other deadly diseases among users. It is good to appreciate the changing world; people enjoy the rights and freedoms which democracy offers, and therefore, they feel it is their right to consume whatever substance on earth. Many people would want marijuana to be legal, based on recreational grounds. However, they do not realize the issue which legalization of marijuana will cause to the entire world. Research has proved that marijuana causes a lot of therapeutic effects (Rubin p. 1612). Legalizing marijuana will arouse excitement to users, non-users, and, consequently, an open chance of its abuse and diversion potential. Marijuana is a drug like any other, and therefore its benefits and risks must be closely weighed to see why its use should remain forbidden forever. Marijuana is harmful to human health. Governments, non- governmental organizations, individual activists, and nurse practitioners should collectively fight against its legalization.
The first reason why everyone should oppose making marijuana a licit drug should is that it has hundreds of known chemical substances (Rubin p. 1613). Medical practitioners hold that the health effect of many of the chemical elements in marijuana is still under investigation; thus, until researchers have proven its non- harmful nature, marijuana consumption should remain illegal. An example of a chemical component of marijuana that causes mental effects is Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, abbreviated as THC (Berenson p. 88). The chemical has a psychological impact because it affects the functionality of cannabinoid receptors directly. The chemical also interacts and affects multiple receptors, including benzodiazepine, dopaminergic, and opioid. However, people think that their consumption of marijuana will make them feel relaxed, but at long last, marijuana alters human perception, memory, and, consequently, cognition. People who abuse the drug develop a distorted thinking process (Zehra et al. 442)). Thus, the affected people have difficulty concentrating and solving problems. Usually, the legalization of marijuana will impact business performance. Managers and their workers will face challenges in making effective decisions for their organization (Boyd et al. n.p). Marijuana users will always be hyperactive and may make huge mistakes, affecting particular businesses' primary operations.
Addicts of marijuana live miserable lives because they occasionally experience a panic attack. Therefore, they will not have the right courage to undertake some personal or organizational roles and responsibilities. Thus, the heavy users will become social misfits and a burden for the entire community to bear (Budney et al. p. 31). Another effect of marijuana on heavy users is hallucination.
