Both transactional and transformational leadership theories are in the new theories categories and, in one way or another, differ from the traditional styles. A transactional leader, for instance, is different from conventional leadership in that the former rewards performance to motivate workers (Abbas & Ali, 2021). On the other hand, traditional methods believed there was no single correct way to do things, and there were no rewards to motivate followers. Transactional and transformational leaders attempt to challenge the status quo and move from conventional leadership practices.
For the gender-based stereotypes, traditionally, there was a general misconception that men were better leaders than women were. Besides, women were seen as weaker leaders than men, who always used strong command to foster results (Turner & Baker, 2018). In today's leadership styles, women are seen to be more transformational than men are, while the latter is more transactional than the former (Saint-Michel, 2018).
