The Research Question, Literature Review, And Research Hypothesis

Lab Report Instructions:

Hypothesis: Does COVID 19 cause more thrombotic related incidence?
The SLP for this course is designed to allow you to apply the research concepts and principles introduced throughout this course to a “real-world” health problem. As such, you will be asked to devise your own research question, to use the empirical literature to identify knowledge gaps in the field with regard to that research question, formulate a corresponding research hypothesis, propose an appropriate study design for testing that research hypothesis, and devise a sampling and recruitment plan to strengthen the generalizability of your study’s findings. In Module 4, you will upload a final paper consisting of all of these elements.
For quick practice, review the article below and and identify the research question:
Okigbo, C. C., Speizer, I. S., Domino, M. E., Curtis, S. L., Halpern, C. T., & Fotso, J. C. (2018). Gender norms and modern contraceptive use in urban Nigeria: a multilevel longitudinal study. BMC women's health, 18(1), 178. doi:10.1186/s12905-018-0664-3. Available at: https://www(dot)ncbi(dot)nlm(dot)nih(dot)gov/pmc/articles/PMC6206649/
(HINT: Research questions are often phrased in a statement form, as the study/research aim.) If you are having trouble identifying the research question, please contact your instructor before proceeding with the tasks listed below.
Your Task for this Assignment:
After reading the background materials for this module, select one of the following research topics and derive a corresponding research question and hypothesis.
Next, write a 2- to 3-page paper in which you identify your research question and hypothesis.
In devising your research question, apply the “Attributes of a ‘Good’ Research Question.” Your paper should clearly delineate the extent to which each of the following criteria has been satisfied:
Relevance
Novelty
Focus
Consisting of two core concepts (at minimum)
Feasibility
A hypothesis should:
Be stated clearly and concisely
Express the relationship between two or more variables
Be testable
Be based upon theory and/or clinical experience
Research Topics:
Organizational culture and patient outcomes
Genetics and Breast cancer risk
Country‘s GDP and Life Expectancy
Obesity and Diabetes Risk
Physical Activity and Stroke Risk
Health Insurance Status and Health Care Utilization
Education and Mortality Risk
Drug Addiction and Criminal Behavior
Cancer Therapy and Tumor Growth -- select a specific type of therapy (e.g., chemotherapy, gene therapy, etc.)
Guidance on how to develop good research questions can be found here: https://guides(dot)library(dot)queensu(dot)ca/health-science-research/research-questions
Another key aspect of conducting research is ensuring that all activities comply with ethical guidelines for scientific research. View the following interactive training video and place a brief statement in the cover page of your module 1 SLPA assignment that you have viewed the video:
Interactive Training Video - The Office of Research Integrity (ORI, 2017) and the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) have created The Research Clinic, an interactive training video to educate clinical and social researchers on the importance of appropriately protecting research subjects and avoiding research misconduct. Length: 2-3 pages typed, double-spaced.

Covid19 Disease and the Emergence of Thrombotic-Related Incidents

[date] I - Background
The coronavirus disease (covid19) that started in Wuhan, China has taken over the world's health priorities at the start of 2020. Coronavirus disease (covid19) is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) strain. The virus mainly infects the lungs and affects the breathing ability of a person. Upon transmission, the virus has an incubation period of 5 to 14 days before a person shows symptoms such as dry cough and fever. World Health Organization advises a 14-day isolation period for the contact people of an infected person (World Health Organization). Some patients, aside from the covid19 disease, suffer from other illnesses from mild to severe cases. The underlying health conditions lower a patient's survival rate to the covid19 disease.
One of the health conditions that is being linked to covid19 is thrombosis. Thrombosis is a health condition where a blood clot (thrombus) interferes in the blood circulation in the veins. With the covid19 pandemic, medical researches look into the possibility of covid19 causing blood clotting. Although there are no particular connections yet that the covid19 causes the coagulation in the body, studies (Price, Mccabe, Garfield, and Wort; Connors and Levy, 2020; Williamson, Elizabeth J., et al., 2020) are being conducted to find links of covid19 to thrombosis cases. As a recommendation to study the correlation of covid19 and thrombosis, a study (Bilaloglu et al., 2020) begs to ask whether the covid19 disease increases the probability of thrombotic-related cases.
II - Research Objective
Studies (Bilaloglu et al., 2020; Price, Mccabe, Garfield, and Wort; Connors and Levy, 2020; Williamson, Elizabeth J., et al., 2020) claim that there is a need for an in-depth study on the emergence of thrombotic incidents in covid19 patients. However, conducting this kind of study is challenging in the time of the pandemic. Upon the assumption of the existence of thrombus in the body, the patient must undergo blood clot detection. For COVID patients in isolation, any medical tests, especially those that utilize machines, are hard to conduct due to the protocols to avoid transmission. That is why detecting thrombus on its early stage in covid19 patients is yet to be done. The studies (Bilaloglu et al., 2020; Price, Mccabe, Garfield, and Wort; Connors and Levy, 2020; Williamson, Elizabeth J., et al., 2020) admit to the discrepancy of related thrombotic cases because of the severity of thrombus and the COVID status of the patient by the time the blood clot is detected. This general objective of this paper is to investigate the association of covid19 with thrombotic events.
The question will lead to identifying the chances of a COVID patient to develo...
