In 1996, Samsung Electronics faced numerous challenges in its operating strategy, and there was a need to improve competitiveness against the more prominent and better-known brands. Samsung needed to address the problems or challenges, including the price competition model, lack of original product designs, ineffective marketing, slow product development, leadership issues, and low product diversification. From 1996, under the leadership of Yun Jong Yong, Samsung's new CEO focused on revitalizing the company and moving away from low-priced and poor-quality products damage associated with a bribery scandal. Samsung then focused more on innovativeness and differentiation strategy. The company managed to navigate and grow during the severe Asian market crisis of 1997.
