Fissuring is a strategy that most corporations use in modern days. For the last decade, it has become popular since it fundamentally changes not only the nature of the employment but the global economy as a whole. In the article "The Fissured Workplace: Why Work Became So Bad for So Many and What Can Be Done to Improve It," Weil explains that fissuring is always regarded as a short-term measure that helps corporations deal with a rapid increase of demand. Most businesses engage in extra activities to meet the demand of their customers. Frequently, the business structure can be altered to allow the company to meets its short-term goals (Weil, 2014).
The primary business strategy underlying the foundation of the fissured workplace is eliminating pay discrimination. Fissuring has always been used by many employers to deal with the problem of setting monopsony wages among their employees. It is difficult for an employer to higher two employees working in the same workplace, with equal skills and experiences but different salaries. However, it is much easier for them to hire a couple of companies with various facilities and needed qualified employees. So if the employee from Firm A is being paid differently than an employee from Firm B, that's not the employer's problem.
Eliminating wage discrimination has helped most firms increase their production rate and company performance in general. Workers who feel that they have been discriminated in terms of their wages tend to be lowly productive. They are not as motivated as their colleagues who might be paid higher wages. However, if there is zero wage discrimination, employees will be highly motivated and effectively perform their duties since they are equally treated.
