Dear Future Generation,
George Washington selected Forge valley for winter encampment as it was strategically located for the army. Forge Valley sits high on a plateau and is surrounded by hills, making it easier for George Washington and the military to keep an eye on Philadelphia, a British-occupied city. Also, Forge valley protected us from external attacks. We arrived in the Forge Valley in December 1777. At this time, we were tired, sick, and hungry from the many battles we had fought earlier in the year.
