From Emilia: 1. The festival is the first full weekend of August every year, so the next one is Aug. 4-6 2023
2. The dances and performances are a way of showing different events or moments in our history, showcasing everything from celebrations like weddings, everyday events like tending the fields/farms, to times of sadness and various struggles our people have faced in our history. Each of the costumes and dances are also representative of different regions and what people used to wear.
3. The festival is our primary fundraiser for the church.
4. We have Macedonian wine imported for the festival every year, and hope to continue to do so for the coming years.
5. Next year, we’re hoping to continue growing and welcoming more of our community to share our rich culture and enjoy all the great food, drinks, and entertainment!

We have our own dance steps that make them unique from the others and the music always has a story to tell.
The festival raises money to help with the church’s operating expenses.
We are thinking of keeping the 20th anniversary wine on the list, as it was hit this year. We normally do have the other wine year after year.
Next year we are thinking of having a fast food station at the bar with only Kepabi and anything new we can think of adding on.

The Macedonia festival in Syracuse took place at St. George Macedonian Orthodox Church situated at 5083 Onondaga Road in Syracuse. This festival happens on the first full weekend of August and therefore the next festival is scheduled for next year from 4th to 6th August. Some of the delicacies available at the festival included combo dinners of rice, potatoes, kebapi (diners were given the option of choosing between various seasoned meat patties), salad and bread, jagneshko (lamb), pileshko (chicken breasts), mixed grill, or a vegetarian option. There was also a pig roast on Saturday and Sunday where other menu items like potato musaka, eggplant, sarmi (cabbage stuffed with beef and rice), baklava sunaes, baklava, as well as other Macedonian desserts. Macedonia wine, especially the highly recommended Domaine Lepovo was sold at the event: Lepovo makes less than 75,000 bottles in a year and each bottle costed $35. Other wines such as the famous Vranec (produced from the country’s inky-colored black grapes) was also available.
The Vranec Barrique costed $15 per bottle while other wines like the Merlot & Cabernot Sauvignon and the Pinot Grigio retailed at $13 a bottle. The St. George Macedonian Orthodox Church was established in the early 1960s by a handful of Macedonian immigrant families. The church was integrated into New York in 1964 where the patron saint “St. George” was chosen after the St. George Monastery in Macedonia (in the village of Velusina), where a majority of the parishioners came from. St. George Macedonian Orthodox Church was promptly registered under the authority of the Holy Synod of Bishops in Skopje, Macedonia, as well as the Macedonian Orthodox Church, the Mother Church.
