Constitutional amendment is the modification of the constitution of a state or nation. Most constitutions require that amendments cannot be made unless a special procedure is passed through, and this procedure is stricter than the ordinary legislation. Such procedures include the majority in the legislature or approval by the electorate in a referendum. The purpose of the constitutional amendments is to guarantee the citizens to speak one’s mind without fear of being persecuted by those who do not like what a person says, to avoid religion, which is sponsored by the state, and grant citizens the freedom and rights as those found in the bill of rights.
