When we talk about democracy in this country, it is safe to say that we have achieved equality over the years. As it is clearly stated in the US Constitution, every American citizen has the right to vote or if qualified, to vie for a seat in any branch of the government. Elections are the source of power to the American people. We exercise democracy by having the opportunity to select representatives and leaders through fair elections. However, how democratic we are is still subject to doubt. We might have the power to make decisions about referendums and to vote for our leaders and representatives, but the suspicion of a plutocratic society has been there for a while now. A plutocracy is a country that is controlled by the wealthy.
The government derives its power from the people. To prevent abuse of power by government officials, elections have been put in place to give citizens a chance to choose appropriate representatives. Even with such powers bestowed upon the citizen, there seems to be more power on the government's side. The government does work in this country. Human rights, laws and regulations have been enforced in the US better than most countries in the world.
America is free. Even with the strict enforcement of the law, Americans enjoy the most lenient, liberties and free rights in the world.
