Making Frankenstein’s Monster Monstrous
Introduction
Frankenstein is a famous story that Mary Shelley wrote in the nineteenth century, rising from a dream she shares with her husband, Percy Shelley, on holiday. The novel shows how Victor Frankenstein creates a creature that is horrifying to him, rejects, and calls the creature a monster to imaginatively describe rejection as an infant and the feeling of being regarded as a monster. It also describes the creature’s ensuing despair and subsequent murders. Mary Shelley connected the whole novel to her experience after she lost her newly born infant and how her mother died after giving birth to her. In a bid to establish how Frankenstein becomes a monster, this essay talks about rejection from society, the broken promises made by the creator, and his structure of the body.
Rejection
Frankenstein, the monster in the story, was more like the creator because of the way he treated him. The "imperfect generation" of the Creature is fully attributable to the creator, in this case, his ability to assemble parts into a living or reanimated being may have been adequate, but his imaginative willingness as a parent is radically lacking (Holmes 377). Besides, in the novel, an older man runs away in fear of a hideous monster after seeing Frankenstein near his hut. Similarly, the fascinated monster after walking into his first village is driven off by residents who throw things at him because they are terrified. Hence, the monster's rejection response Frankenstein gets from the community, makes him feel hated and an urge to hurt his maker, which turns him into a monster.
