In the poem, There is a Longing by Chief Dan George, the opening line is “there is a longing in the heart of my people to reach out and grasp that which is needed for our survival” sets the tone for the poem indicating that the poet is concerned with the welfare of his people who are a minority who need to fulfill their worth and purpose.
