In the past years, cell phones were considered to be luxury among the rich people. Today, there are more than 140 million phone subscribers in the United States. Worldwide users of cell phones are estimated to be more than a billion according. Cell phone use is distractive to drivers and can cause many accidents (Kiesbye, 2011). A number of death cases caused through accidents are reportedly directed to the use of cell phones while driving. A report shows that 28% of all traffic accidents is caused by the use of cell phones while driving (Kiesbye, 2011). Here in the United States, 80% of the population use cell phones and most of them drive with their phones in the vehicles. The National Safety Council (NSC) estimates car crashes caused through use of cell phones to accumulate to 1.6 million each year in the United States. There is need to need to ban the use of cell phones while driving in order to deal with this problem. I strongly support the need to introduce a policy banning the use of cell phones while driving.
Accidents associated with the use of cell phones on roads are increasing in number. As Lewis (2005) asserts, cell phones increases the risk of car crashes and thus expose drivers to fatal accidents that occur very often. Over the past years, cases of deaths caused by careless driving have increased in magnitude. In U.S, 80% of the population use cell phones and most of them drive with their phones in the vehicles.
