How to Read Literature Like a Professor is the foundation of what we talk about in this class. Most of our discussion topics are based off of Foster's book so make sure you keep up with the reading. One of the most fundamental elements of any story is that of the quest. You can literally apply it to anything, both written and on-screen. For the purposes of these discussions, you are allowed to reference an array of texts as long as there is a story. You can use film and literature both. Every story needs a quest as well as someone to take on said quest. After reading chapter 1 in How to Read Literature Like a Professor, choose a work, identify the elements of the quest and explain how it enhances your understanding of the overall work as a whole

How to Read Literature Like a Professor
In "How to Read Literature like a Professor", Thomas C. Foster argues that every story has a quest and even the characters are in pursuit of something. In the firsts chapter he points out that with every trip is a quest, and the author relies on an informal approach n the writing to connect with the readers. For instance ,in Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” Victor Frankenstein is the ‘quester’ who seeks to conquer and subvert nature by creating a being, but the Frankenstein Creature seeks companionship as it is alone, terrifying and no one to relate with including its creator. Thus, different characters have different quests and the quests are linked to trips or journeys that the characters make and are described in a quest structure.
Authors use certain elements in their writing including symbolism and there are meanings to their choices and how they frame the quest for the different characters. ...
