Introductory Paragraph:
Hook: Can you imagine a situation where marijuana is legal in all 50 states of the country? The move to legalize marijuana can yield significant benefits.
Background and contextual information: Many states are moving towards the legalization of marijuana for recreational and medical use. Marijuana is fully legal in 16 out of the 15 states, with California becoming the first state to legalize its medical use in 1996. However, marijuana is still illegal under federal law. The illegal selling of marijuana in many states means that the product is sold under unsafe conditions which put the lives of many Americans at risk.
Thesis Sentence: Marijuana should be legalized in the United States because it has significant health benefits, can reduce crime rates, and is beneficial to the economy.
Supporting paragraph 1 (Subtopic 1)
Persuasive Topic Sentence (include position and align with first subtopic): Marijuana should be legalized in the country because it has significant health benefits.
