Healthy People 2020 make available a broad set of nationwide goals as well as objectives for a health promotion program to improve the health of the residents of the United States. The contents of Healthy People 2020 include forty-two subject areas with more than 1,200 objectives (Koh, Blakey, & Roper, 2014). There is a smaller set of healthy people 2020 aims identified as Leading Health Indicators selected to convey information on priorities about health concerns and potential measures that may be taken to manage them in the most effective way. In the past decade, there have been great developments in the healthcare field. There has been a great reduction in mortality rates due to cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Besides, life expectancy at birth has gone high. The leading health indicators from healthy people 2020 gave a new highlighting of the need to overcome challenges during the track of advancement in the course of the next ten years. The significance of the indicators is to evaluate the well-being of the country, foster collaborative efforts across health care sectors and campaign for action at the local, national as well as government levels in order to enhance the health of the occupants of the whole United States (Koh, Blakey, & Roper, 2014).
The priority health concern that I would prepare a small budget for is the reduction of the percentage of children, teens, and adults who are obese. This is through the control of nutritional intakes, physical activities as well as obesity. The achievement of this would be through increasing the number of people who meet the inclusion criteria for physical activity and other activities set to strengthen body muscles. This would, in turn, lower the fraction of adults who are likely to become obese. It would also reduce the ratio of children and teenagers who have too much weight or obese. The other way to address the priority health concern is increasing the daily consumption of vegetables among the children aged two years and above (Koh, Blakey, & Roper, 2014). This is because many people tend to consume little amounts of vegetables lower than the recommended amount. Below is a small sample budget for a hypothetical state program based on the priority health concerns from Healthy People 2020.
