Multiple problems often arise due to poor database design practices. Some of the potential consequences resulting from poorly designed databases include poor normalization and redundancy (Albarak & Bahsoon, n.d). First, since database design is not a deterministic task, different designers may follow all the normalization rules and principles for the same problem and generate different layouts of data. However, designers need to follow certain aspects of design techniques to achieve better results. Secondly, although related to normalization, redundancy is often an example of poor designs that can be addressed with normalization. Databases with redundant fields and tables become bizarre to developers because they need the business logic to maintain many versions of the same data up to date.
