Can Requiring People to Work Make them Healthier?
The reading can requiring people to work to make them healthier by Margot Sanger-Katz is one that I liked the most. The critical message from reading is the correlation between work and health (Sanger-Katz, 2018). Sanger-Katz argues that higher earnings are positively connected with a longer lifespan. Although it is unclear how much work or income can improve health, some income can help one pay for their medical services, thus improving their health whenever needed (Sanger-Katz, 2018). It is a clear understanding that health requires funding which comes from working. Therefore, requiring people to work makes them healthier. The statement needs a critical understanding of the connection between work and health for one to come to terms with the statement. In simple terms, health has to be financed differently, and the funds are acquired from working.
The United States, through the President Trump administration, saw it wise to make significant changes to Medicaid, a program used to provide health care to the poor. The government decided to encourage childless adults to work to access Medicaid services. It is a move that would ensure adults work even in community development programs to make a living and get their health care services.
