Midterm proposal.Traditional short documentary of an individual
The midterm assignment is to create a 2 - 3 minute video that tells a story in a documentary/reportage style. This could be a traditional short documentary of an individual or event, or it can be a more open ended “document” where memory, subjectivity and the creators point of view create a work that questions the “truth” of what we are seeing. Regardless, the visual language of this assignment should reference a documentary genre, meaning the student should use the tools of documentary films, including interviews, voice over and text in addition to establishing and environmental shots to tell the story.
For next week create a PDF proposal for this video that contains the following:
1: a one paragraph description of your subject, the story you want to tell, and how you want to tell it. This paragraph should describe your point of view, specifically describing where on the objectivity - subjectivity spectrum of you see your point of view for this project, where “objective” is defined as the most neutral, investigative journalistic approach to the documentary, and “subjective” as defined by the most personal, experiential point of view of a story.
2: a list of locations, interviews and other supporting documents you will use to create the video
3: at least three drawings representing the most graphic shots you imagine of the video. This is a bit like a story board, however instead of having to imagine every shot, I want you to focus on the ones that are the most graphic and powerful, the images that will help tell the story and set the tone of our piece.
4: A shooting schedule of how you are going to shoot and edit this piece. Please refer to the syllabus and midterm schedule below when drafting your plan.
5: Save All of this info as single PDF and upload to canvas.

This assignment is worth 2.5 points, and is graded on a 6 increment scale
2.5: Excellent work. Both conceptually interesting and technically well executed (very few of these give given).

The story that the study will focus on would be based on strategies that can be used in fighting crime. The storyline would be built through docudrama that shows the life of the police officers and the life of a criminal. Across the globe there are numerous cases related to victimization, crime, and violence. The ideology related to crime prevention has been caused by environmental and social factors. Globally, many individuals together with their families are being affected by the outcome of these factors as each day. Therefore, it is important for an organization to identify the factors related to various types of crime in order to come up with suitable programmers or strategies that will assist in reducing incidence related to these crimes. The goal of the film is to establish the interventions that are being used by the law enforcement agencies.
First is the environmental approach, which is used in changing certain characteristics related to the environment, which might cause events related to crime. In doing so, there are various approaches one might use such as coming up with design approaches which will be used in modifying the physical environment and situational approach in reducing the occurrence of crime opportunities. Prevention of situational crime is the approach, which is used to modify the factors through preventing the offenders getting the opportunity to participate in behaviors related to crime. Prevention of situational crime contains a collection of measures, which are used in highlighting various ways of targeting the types of crime at different circumstances.
