You will answer both questions.  
Each question is worth 15 points for a total of 30. There are no requirements for how much or how little you write in order to answer each question.  Again, just like the mid-term, I’m looking for the right answers—logical and coherent paragraphs and nothing more.  The length is totally up to you and whatever you think it takes to answer each question and get full credit. 
A few tips (same as the mid-term): I am not interested in long quotes or citations.  You need only use the assigned readings and class discussions to answer the questions.  I also encourage you to refer to the handouts and documentaries that we have used throughout the semester. And in terms of structure, you will get more points if your answers are well organized with good introductions and conclusions. And just to clarify, you should write an intro and conclusion for each question!  Finally, I would encourage you to develop good outlines of your answers before you start writing.  A good outline will ensure that you don’t forget important information and it will help you organize your thoughts into logical, coherent answers.
Question 1 (see Weeks 9 and 10) – Labor and Legality)
Explain the culture of work that the Busboys created and sustained within their work group at the restaurant in Chicago (why they embraced it and what they hoped to accomplish in promoting it) and the extent to which it helped and hindered their interests on the job. 
Your answer should address the following: To what degree do the busboys control their jobs?  Why do they take on this responsibility? What’s in it for them? Also, using the busboys example, how do immigrant workers evaluate the quality of their jobs?  What are they looking for in an employer?  What collective information do they use to determine which jobs they should and should not take? Finally, in doing all that they do, what is the goal of the busboys and do they ultimately achieve their goal?
Question 2 (see Weeks 12-14)
In the two chapters from the book titled Immigrant Workers and the New U.S. Labor Market,  the author, Immanuel Ness, thinks immigrant workers may be in a good position to organize. What is his rational for making this argument? And based on Ness’ view, class discussions and the documentaries (The Hand That Feeds and Food Chains), what do you think? Might immigrant workers be in a good position to organize? In your answer you should also talk about the current political climate, the Trump Administration’s position on immigration and undocumented workers and the extent to which it impacts the likelihood of immigrants organizing unions. And you might also consider using the Busboys and Worker Rights discussions in making your argument as well as our discussions about “essential or front-line workers and COVID19.”

In Chicago, Illinois, a group of immigrant workers known as Busboys created a unique culture on how they work. The group came up with a unique culture that made them famous not only in Illinois but also in the entire country. Busboys created social networks that help them cope and survive while living in America. These social networks have been supportive of the provision of any information related to job opportunities in Chicago (Gomberg‐Muñoz, 2010). Furthermore, they are very supportive of disseminating information to immigrants and workgroups. However, busboys' social networks are different from social media networks like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (Gomberg‐Muñoz, 2010). Theirs works communicating through word of mouth. For example, somebody in Cuba might have a brother, nephew, or cousin working in the U.S. the one in the U.S would then convince his/her relative in Cuba to come to the U.S for better-paying jobs. 
Through such connections, busboys manage to pass information related to job opportunities to immigrants in the U.S or relatives and friends in the U.S. the reason why they have managed to create such a productive culture is just simple. When companies or organizations are about to hire new employees to their workforce, the existing employees are the first to know (Gomberg‐Muñoz, 2010). This gives them the advantage, and because of good work relations with their managers, they approach them and inform them about their relatives who can fill those job positions. The approach gives them control of the next person to fill the vacant position or new positions. Finally, the job has a high likelihood that it will be filled by one of their family members or friends (Gomberg‐Muñoz, 2010).
Moreover, in restaurants where employees take part in job hiring, it becomes an added advantage to them. Controlling jobs will work for them and employers. For them, they will continuously be notified by their employers every time job hiring is about to be conducted. Therefore, they take advantage and priority by monopolizing the flow of information (Gomberg‐Muñoz, 2010). For employers, they are always assured of quick replacement incase a particular job opportunity is left vacant. 
Most immigrant workers, like those in the busboys' group, the essential point in evaluating their job quality is the amount of salary they receive. With good wages, they eventually live in better apartments than the ones they could live in their home country. Immigrant workers move from one job position to the other if the job has more pay than the current (Gomberg‐Muñoz, 2010). Additionally, they believe that the U.S has well-paying jobs.
