The chapter offers important information on how organizations can target social audiences. The social media offers different categories of audiences with diverse personal and social goals. The chapter thus provides useful information that can help businesses direct products and services to the right audiences. For an organization to decide its most valuable and appropriate audiences, addressing three important questions is necessary: who are the organization’s audiences? What are their characteristics? What are their social media goals? It is deducible that addressing these questions can help an organization in designing its social media content, a concept covered in chapter five.
From the chapter, categorization of the audience into primary, secondary, and tertiary is instrumental in helping the organization design its social media strategy. I have learned that when you categorize your audience, it becomes easier to decide on the one that will best help you achieve your social media goals. For example, an organization can design a strategy that targets its primary audience, who will in turn influence members from another category. Once one has identified the audiences that are most important to the initiative of the organization, focusing on their needs can help it achieving social media goals.
