Shared Experiences and Solidarity Goods
Reflection Paper 2: Shared experiences and solidarity goods
For this reflection paper, I'd like you to think about the times in your life that are broadly shared with others. For example, in the era of mass media (roughly 1850's-1990's) people came together for many events. Blockbuster movies, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, major news events such as NASA launches, even hit TV shows and top 40 music brought diverse groups of people together. The attacks of 09/11/2001 did bring Americans together--but in mourning rather than celebration. What do you see as providing us with social glue (that crosses political divides).
Do you think that we would benefit from shared experiences? Why or why not? Do you think that we will ever be able to create such experiences again? Why or why not?
Your paper should be 2 to 2.5 pages long. I look forward to reading your responses.
