The Politics of Trade. Trans-Pacific Partnership. Term Paper (Term Paper Sample)

The paper should be no more than four pages, double-spaced, in 12-point font, and with margins of one inch. It should be uploaded on Carmen. You must use a minimum of five sources for the paper and a majority must not be websites (a source that exists in hard copy but is made available online, such as a newspaper or journal
article, does not count as a website source). All sources should be properly cited in the text and bibliographic information provided in a References List at the end of the paper (this list does not count toward the four-page limit). Any standard format is acceptable for citations and references. All work must be your own; plagiarism will not be tolerated. If you are unsure about the rules governing academic honesty in written work, please ask.
In this paper you will use the example of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) to explore the politics of free trade agreements. Briefly describe the TPP and its important features. Then analyze one of the 12 countries that participated in the TPP negotiations. In that country, who were the main supporters of the agreement (or of free trade generally) and who opposed it, and why? Overall, do you believe the country you’ve analyzed would benefit from the TPP or a similar agreement?

Trans-Pacific Partnership
The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is one of the largest trade agreements whose role was to promote free trade to its member states following its ratification (Chaisse, Gao, & Lo, 2017). The 12 states under the agreement that was signed in 2016 comprise of Vietnam, Australia, Brunei, Malaysia, Canada, Singapore, Chile, New Zealand, Mexico, Peru, Japan, and the United States (Garavaglia, 2016). The TPP treaty has essential features such as slashing tariffs, fostering close economic relationships, and promoting trade for sustained growth. Therefore, the expectation is that the agreement is to be the next substantial regional treaty in the Asia Pacific after the 1992’s conclusion of the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) (Petri, Plummer & Zhai, 2012). This paper seeks to review the politics of the trade agreements, the imports and TPP features and the negotiations, as it gauges those opposed to it and the strong supporters of the partnership.
