Apologetic Paper: Christian Perception toward Marriage
This paper will consist of four parts. Each part has a subscribed number of sections, each with a subscribed number of paragraphs with an explanation of what needs to be found in each paragraph.
Consider this paper as writing an additional chapter to our textbook, Without a Doubt.
First Part: Question
This part will consist of one paragraph. This paragraph should present the apologetics question. It should present the difficulties this question (or problem) presents to modern day Christians and the need for a solid defense.
I'll give a few suggestions for possible apologetic questions: why isn't the Gospel of Thomas in the Bible, why do we have the books that we have in the Bible, what is the biblical position on homosexual marriage, what should be a Christian response to abortion, why would God send his people to slaughter all the Canaanites, should women be pastors, what happens to those who never hear the Gospel, is hell a fair punishment for sins, was there death in the animal kingdom before the Fall of Man, and etc. I'm sure you can come up with many more possible options.
Second Part: Defense
This part needs an introductory paragraph briefly introducing four points of evidence to defend the Christian position for the question or against the argument.
Number and write in bold four thesis statements for each of the four points of evidence you introduced in the first paragraph of this section.
After each thesis statement write one paragraph explaining and defending the thesis statement. For these four statements you will need to cite, and or quote, from at least four sources. Three of these sources must come from a magazine, journal, or book (if the source is found on-line that is acceptable). The other source may come from articles written on a blog or website. Anytime you are citing or quoting from a source you need to follow proper rules of MLA introductions and citations, or you may use a footnote or endnote style of citing your sources as found in Without a Doubt.
To see the format look at Chapter 7, pages 92-98 and Chapter 8, pages 105-108, of Without a Doubt. See how Kenneth Samples writes bold, numbered thesis statements, and then explains and defends them. That’s what you need to do.
Third Part: Rebuttals, Misconceptions, and Alternative Explanations
This part needs an introductory paragraph briefly introducing two rebuttals, misconceptions, or alternative explanations that a Christian should anticipate hearing in response to the four points of evidence that you provided in the Second Part.
Number and write in bold two rebuttals, misconceptions, or alternative explanations.
Then write a paragraph rebuttal to each of these, whenever possible utilizing or clarifying the information from the four thesis statements in the Second Part. There are no required sources for this section, but if you need to cite or quote from a source, be sure to cite your sources.
To see the format look at Chapter 7, pages 99-102 and Chapter 8, pages 110-117, of Without a Doubt.
Fourth Part: Conclusion
Provide a single paragraph for the conclusion of the paper that summarizes the Christian Defense to the question of your paper.
