FOUNDATIONS AND TRANSFORMATION OF CHINESE LITERATURE
As depicted in the text, the New Year was a very important day in the history of the people of China. A lot has since changed due to civilization, but there are still some commonalities between ancient times and the events in modern society. Concerning the events captured in the test, the article critically examines and compares the events that transpired in ancient times and tries to establish possible links with events in the present times. Therefore, much focus will be given to the three ideological Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism and their influence on the New Year sacrifice.
The New Year celebrations began in Luzhen on the twentieth day of the twelfth Lunar month. So important was the New Year to the ancient people that they had to celebrate it by engaging in feasting. New Year was largely associated with the end of the year ceremony. The ancient people believed in a supernatural bring, so they offered sacrifices to God. Such sacrifices were usually performed at dawn(Lu, 1969, p.5). The worshippers converged in the places of worship and made the sacrifices. Worshipping was largely associated with men.
The New Year celebrations are an event which has since been transferred from one generation to another. It remains significant even in the modern-day calendar. It is one event that is not inclined to any religion since it is celebrated by people worldwide. Even in modern society, people still believe that a supernatural being should be given all the praise during the New Year. (Lu, 1969, p.5) People converge in Temples and other places of worship to engage in divine activities as a way of celebrating the New Year. Just like in ancient times, people celebrate by feasting and visiting their family.
All the factors mentioned regarding New Year underscore its significance to modern times. Therefore it is safe to admit a close relationship between the present times and the traditional times concerning the New Year celebrations. The sequence of events and the beliefs associated with this particular holiday has not changed. The ideology of Confucianism strongly advocated for making sacrifices in order to honor the parents. In the text, the philosopher admitted that caution should be taken while performing funeral rites for the parents. The philosopher further observes that the virtue of the people would be restored after proper excellence (Pine, 2005). In the modern text, people believed that they had to make sacrifices in order to appease the spirits, and so they offer sacrifices in places of worship.
