Introduction
In the modern-day world, ideas of race and ethnicity are a common but delicate topic. Historic events related to racial and ethnic equality have led many people to have a different perspective regarding race. Still, there are some groups as well as individuals who still use racist language. Fortunately, however, national and international organizations have come up strongly against racial and ethnic discrimination. For instance, the football organization, FIFA, has put in place stringent rules governing the way its employees, football players, and fans are supposed to behave with respect to the game. FIFA is just one among other organizations that are working to promote positive attitudes towards race and ethnicity. Aside from organizations, there are individuals, especially authors who have dedicated their lives to creating awareness on issues regarding race and ethnicity. One such author is Andrea Levy. In this paper, the author discusses notions of ethnicity and racialization in the essay “This Is My England” in relation to the concept of identity and the idea of the nation as an ‘imagined community’.

Racialization is also a major problem in the world. In her essay, Levy notes that at one time, a man from New Zealander sought to know where she was from even though she was English (Levy 1). To the man, an English person could only be a white man or woman with certain features such as fair hair. Racialization is a common thing that people of color experience in countries where the dominant population is white. In England, very few people in modern society showcase racist behavior towards their fellow citizens. In some cases where individuals use racist language or express racist opinions, the victims are normally quick to reprimand them as such behavior is not acceptable in the twenty-first century (Back 104). Also, in cases where such behavior is reported to the authorities, the culprits are likely to face grave consequences. Even in countries such as the USA where racism is evident, such rules apply. Despite the steps that have been taken to address issues of race in such countries, people of color still wish for nations where they can live free of being discriminated based on their race.
