The threat of Global Warming
Global warming is an issue that has stirred a lot of debate in the recent past and still continues to be a recurrent issue due to the ongoing menace. Various lessons can be drawn from global warming and the effects brought about by the same. Notably, when the information about the devastating impact of global warming in the recent years was made public, it brought about numerous debates from different stakeholders from various countries involving both private and government agencies more so, the environmental champions and all the people passionate about issues of the environment.
In a bid to understand the potential threats that global warming presents to the people, animals, and the environment at large, it is necessary to understand some basic facts concerning global warming. Some of the effects of global warming include the rise in water level, the disappearance of glassier and ice in the North Pole ruining the water ecosystem and endangering the animals that live and survive on the ice. This leads to a rise in the sea level and the low lying areas that were inhabited by people and animals due to floodingCITATION Edw12 \p 63 \l 1033 (Close 63). Another effect is the damage caused to the coral reefs whose death and extinction comes due to the rise in the ocean temperatures and consequently causing the immigration of animals living underwater to more cool areasCITATION Wea11 \p 31 \l 1033 (Weaver 31). Besides, global warming has led to an increase in diseases among wildlife and this is linked with the growing change in the distribution of wildlife.
Notably, humans depend on the ecosystem for water and food. As such, when there is no functionality, the humans are at risk of starvation and to the sad extremes of deathCITATION Wea11 \p 22 \l 1033 (Weaver 22). It is indeed argued that this menace was not seriously taken until the situation exacerbated in certain parts of the world like Africa where people and animals continue to die due to lack of food and water. This calls for immediate action in order to save humanity based on the fact that global warming is no longer a prediction meant for the future because it is already happening on land, air, and at sea.
It should be noted that, naturally, there are different weather changes that cannot be classified as global warming. However, when the weather changes go to the extreme, then it is classified as global warming effect as a result of the increased activity of the same. The extreme events observed over the last couple of years are consonant with the impacts of global warming, which may be the pointers of superior modifications in weather yet to come if global warming continues without any efforts to mitigate or prevent since it is a real threat.
Some of the extreme events experienced over the years due to global warming include drought majorly experienced in different parts of the world. Though there has previously been drought, the effects of global warming have made drought more averse and intense. Seasons without rains go for much longer periods while the rainy seasons are much shorter. More so, most of this water is sipped down to the already drylands leading to ...
