Answer 1
Iraq is a country in the Middle East. Specifically, its bordering nations are Iran, Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. In ancient times, Iraq was called Mesopotamia, meaning the land between rivers. Due to its extensive alluvial plains, it gave rise to some of the earliest civilizations, such as Assyria, Sumer, Babylon, and Akkad (BBC). After the seventh century, Iraq became the Islamic world, which is an integral and central part of Muslims. Baghdad is the capital city of Iraq. Iraq was colonized by the British before gaining its independence in 1932. The topography of Iraq can be categorized into four primary regions, namely upland, deserts, highlands, and alluvial plains.
Answer 2
Barham Salih is the eighth president of Iraq. He was elected on October 2, 2018. Salih has been in the office of president for over two years. The parliament of Iraq elected Salih who won with 219 votes against his rival Fuad Hussein who received 22 votes. Fuad Masum was the former president of Iraq who served the country from July 24, 2014, to October 2, 2018 (Columbia University). Both Salih and Masum were elected under the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. Salih replaced Masum after his term elapsed, and the parliamentary election chooses him as the next president of Iraq.
Answer 3
Before Salih was elected as the president of Iraq, he was Kurdistan’s Prime Minister. Although the president is a Sunni Muslim, he strongly emphasizes citizenship. Masum was also a Sunni Muslim. Salih believes that every citizen of Iraq should be protected regardless of their religious affiliations. He also wants Iraq to be corruption-free and to eliminate extremist violence (Allen). Last December, Salih urged all Iraq Christians who had fled the nation to return to their homeland. As a result, the president said that all citizens; cultural and religious rights ought to be safeguarded.
Answer 4
Iraq’s federal government is said to be Islamic and democratic under the contemporary constitution. The government comprises the judicial, executive, and legislative branches without forgetting about other multiple independent commissions. The current political system was established after the reign of Saddam Hussein that ended in 2003. Since the president is a Sunni Arab, an individual can assert that the government has the majority of Muslims (Bussemaker). However, all citizens regardless of their religions enjoy all the state’s privileges and can participate in all occasions planned by the government without discrimination.
Answer 5
The five primary terrorist groups in Iraq are the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the Sunni Jihadist Group, Taliban Forces, Boko Haraam, and the Palestine Liberation Front (PLF). These extremist organizations contribute to the political instability of Iraq. As indicated earlier, Syria is Iraq’s neighboring country. Since the country has been at war for some years, some terrorist groups that attack Syria usually hide in Iraq. Members of these extremist groups are Muslims and it is challenging to differentiate terrorists from non-terrorists in the region, which is dominated by Islamic.
