Choose any moral issue and write a 2 – 5 page essay (550 – 1250 words) defending a position on it. In the course of writing your essay, make sure you summarize the relevant background issues pertaining to your topic adequately. For example, if you choose to write about the death penalty, you should discuss the nature of punishment. If you choose to write about abortion, you should address the question of personhood, and the criteria for it. If you choose to write on the issue of euthanasia, you should discuss the concept of death, in addition to autonomy and natural law. If you choose to write about
affirmative action, you should address the issue of “moral groupism” and comparative
injustice. If you choose to write about economic justice and global obligations, you should consider the concept of justice in general, based on our brief surveys of Nozick and Rawls, in addition to our study of utilitarianism. If you choose to write on animal rights, you should address the question of whether human beings possess any morally relevant characteristics that distinguish them from other animals, in addition to the
concept of “speciesism” and its similarity to racism and sexism. If you choose to write
about sexual morality you should address natural law theory and traditional conceptions of sexual conduct. Before finishing your essay, make sure you present and respond to at least one objection to your position. In the course of developing your position, be sure to cite at least 1 readings in connection with your topic.

Abortion as a moral issue.
Morality is the differentiation of decisions, intentions and actions between those that are distinguished as proper and those that are improper. Morality can be a body of standards or principles derived from a particular culture, religion or code of conduct. Whatever people find to morally acceptable and unacceptable highly depend on their culture and where they live in the world. For instance death penalties to law offenders is acceptable in some countries and yet unacceptable to others. This paper is meant to discuss abortion as a moral issues and giving the relevant background issues related to abortion.
Abortion is the physical termination of a fetus during its development. The moral debate against abortion focuses on two distinct issues; whether a human fetus has a right to live and if so, whether the rights of the mother is any degree overrides that of the fetus. Abortion also hinges on the question of personhood; some people think that abortion is always wrong while others think that abortion is right when the mother’s life is at risk and most people think that there is a range of circumstance in which abortions can be morally acceptable (Luker, Kristin, pp. 16).
Pro-life supporters reason that abortion is morally wrong on the basis that a fetus is an innocent human being .This is because pro-life supporters believe that the government has an obligation to preserve all human life regardless of intent, viability or quality of life concerns.
