Analysis of Autumn Rhythm Name Institution Analysis of Autumn Rhythm Background Information about Autumn Rhythm Many people will hear the name Jackson Pollock and continue with what they were doing. However, only a selected and special few will hear that name and move closer while wanting to know more or just to be associated with a group of people who know who Pollock is. Pollock was a man who preferred his work to be unique. He sought for ways which were unorthodox and embraced techniques which often wowed people in the same manner that they confused them. Initially, Pollock was also a normal painter whose work was similar to other artists of his time. However, once he joined with David Alfaro, a Mexican muralist in New York, Pollock developed a unique style. Few people are often talked about, or considered individuals who moved the world with their art and Pollock finds himself in this crowd. Creating immersive experiences with designs and art is not an easy feat. First of all, an immersive experience can be described as an experience that elicits or induces the feeling of being in a place or a in a virtual space. It also means that an experience where one’s consciousness is transferred from their immediate reality to an alternate reality. Art has the power to do this and Pollock is an artist whose art often did and still does this to people. A good example of one of his pieces of art that creates an immersive experience is the Autumn Rhythm. In all his pieces of art, Pollock gives rise to various interpretations, and this is essentially because of the often confusing yet intriguing style he opted to use in his pieces. Description of the Autumn Rhythm In the 1940s and 1950s, dripping was not a common method, and a few artists had shown a mastery of it. With his first drip painting in 1947, Pollock made a mark, and by 1950 when he painted the Autumn Rhythm, he had already made a name for himself. While it seemed and was indeed nonrepresentational, the painting did elicit mixed reactions. The most unorthodox means ever seen had been used in the painting and people were not prepared for it even the enthusiastic lot. Looking at the painting, one notes that it lacks a single point of focus and the elements do not seem to be arranged in any manner. Before Pollock, paintings were often conforming to certain styles or were expected to have a central point of focus. They were expected to mean something or to drive a particular rhetoric. However, this was not the case when the Autumn Rhythm was finalized. Almost everything or bits of the painting seems to or can have a particular meaning. Therefore, almost every surface can be said to be equally significant or to play a role in driving whichever narrative Pollock had in mind. In his words, Pollock is documented saying “I’m very representational some time, and a little all of the time. But when you’re painting out of your unconscious, figures are bound to emerge…painting is a state of being…Painting is self-discovery. Every good artist paints what he is”. The above statement helps to tell a story of who Pollock was and what the Autumn Rhythm represented.
