The Three Components of love
The triangular theory by Robert Sternberg represents three components of love. While love might be a term used by various people in different relationships, it could have various definitions. For instance, some individuals think that love is physical, while others believe in the opinion that it is a long-lasting affection between the parties involved. On the other hand, some groups would believe that the action occurs at first sight, whereas other people have the idea that love can develop over a certain period probably after several incidences of encounter while still working on building a strong relationship (Erin, 2013). However, having varied ideas and thoughts does not counteract the actual meaning, since all individuals have the freedom of expressing how they feel about love. According to the triangular theory, love is composed of three components; intimacy, passion and commitment, with intimacy standing out at the top whereas passion and commitment make the side points.
Elements of love from a Combination of the Main Components
Sternberg goes further to describe the eight elements of love from the three major components. In this case, love gets deeper meanings and definitions from various perspectives and analysis. In most cases, different people have different reasons for falling in love, under various circumstances and issues (Erin, 2013). All opinions and reasons matter and they are equally significant to the ultimate beholders. First, non-love is based on acquaintance without any of the three components; intimacy, passion, and commitment (Rishaquiem, 2017). This situation occurs in casual interactions only and it does not matter after the respective encounter.
