The mangers could get more information from it to improve work competence for future direction. Upward communication involves providing suggestions from the manager to employees in order to improve work efficiency. Both of these two communications are usually formal, while lateral communication which occurs among coworkers from different departments, is often informal. [date] I - Language and Society Statement
This course has briefly but thoroughly discussed the existing communication and interaction in society. Linguistic understanding of social communications has given access to strategies that enhance communication skills.
As the introductory topic for the course, critical thinking plays a role in effective communication between humans. Although we know how to express emotions through gestures and verbally exchange thoughts, there are instances when we have to be critical of what comes out of our words and expressions. As human beings, we are different in many ways, like how we think, perceive things, and even interpret what we see or hear. We cannot guarantee that the other person will understand something the way we do because of these differences. With critical thinking, we could ponder how to make the other person comprehend our thoughts without offense or malice.
Communication is also scientifically approached in contemporary times. We need to have a better communication system that addresses our concerns when it comes to relaying messages. There has to be a scientific understanding of humans and communications to establish such a system. Research paradigms such as social, interpretative, and critical approaches look at and study human communication differently. The social approach paradigm looks at social forces that shape communication, while the interpretative approach paradigm is the outcome of communications. The critical approach paradigm looks into more complex communication aspects, such as economics, political, and history.
In defining social communications, it is necessary to grasp social identities that help form communication differences. Although they are not limited to those, social identities may be of race, nationality, and ethnicity. These identities may hold communication disparities like tone, phrasing, word etymologies, and even linguistic gestures. The differences in communication style have allowed different groups of people to form their identities and culture to pass down to the present generation. Communication in every culture also shapes the way these groups of people approach and perceive their surroundings.
Communication also influences the perceptions of people. We grew up with the language we were brought up with, defining the kind of language we use to communicate with people. For instance, an American may have linguistic conflicts with a Canadian because of the different English variants. Although they both use the English language, the differences in their English variants differentiate their words and meanings. Such a difference in language variety may imply a difference in views and ideologies.
Despite differences, verbal communication may address miscommunication between people. Verbal communication makes assumptions and misconceptions more precise than body language could ever make. At least, it is closer to what the other person truly means. However, misinterpretation may come from mistakes in aspects like phonology, semantics, and pragmatics. Phonology is about the sound of the words. The miscommunication may come from mishearing words tha...
