Article Summary
This paper gives a summary of two articles that have deals with the Attention Deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The first is Ramsay, Russell article CBT for adult ADHD: Adaptations and Hypothesized Mechanisms of Change; Ramsay, 2010 seeks to identify how Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) can be used for the treatment of ADHD for adults so that they can make positive responses. The second is Miranda, Ana (2000) articles Efficacy of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy in the Treatment of Children with ADHD, With And Without Aggressiveness.
CBT in adults
According to Ramsay, 2010 the previous notion ADHD was sorely for children was incorrect since research has proved otherwise. Studies in the field indicate that the majority of individuals diagnosed with ADHD while in their childhood carry on showing symptoms that are clinically significant in adulthood. The worrying part is that the symptoms may not be recognized or even diagnosed until persons experience difficulties in adulthood. The adult patients don’t have to worry much since there are effective single treatment medications for all ages (Ramsay, 2010).
A problem however exists for adult patients in view of the fact that medication is not enough to treat the disorder. On the other hand there has been successful development of adjunctive treatment for adults that are based on CBT. CBT has been adapted in view of the fact that ADHD mainly result from lack of triggering thought like impulsivity and distractibility (Ramsay, 2010). CBT has been conceptualized and developed so that the executive dysfunction and growth of the patient can be factored in effectively.
