Part 1
• Explain the health problem specific to the adult population. Be sure to provide supporting evidence, including statistics.
• Examine the causative factors (include physical, social, and psychological factors).
• Elaborate on the consequences of obesity in the adult population. Consider the consequences in terms of physical, social and psychological effects. Discuss whether the effect(s) would be classified as short term or long term.
Part 2
Develop a teaching plan to support the needs of a specific individual from the adult patient population. Be sure to include the following:
• How will you assess the patient’s learning needs? Be sure to consider barriers in your response.
• What are the expected outcomes? Include realistic time frames.
• What information will you teach the patient and why are you selecting this information? Be sure to consider age, gender, culture, religious preferences and learning style.
• How will you evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching?

Obesity
Obesity is the excess accumulation of fats in the body leading to fattening and being overweight. Professionals can differentiate it from being overweight in the medical field. Being overweight can be from the fat, bones, muscles, and body water. Overweight and obesity mean that body weight exceeds the normal consideration for health concerning the height of the person. The evidence of obesity among people is high records of overweight, increases in cases of health problems such as several types of cancer, heart diseases, type two diabetes, and osteoarthritis. In most countries in the West, people have records of body mass index exceeding 30 kg2m2 that are an indication of obesity. Mass body index is measured by dividing the body weight by the height to get the ration ('Erratum', 2015).
Statistical records prove that obesity is the number one leader of preventable deaths in the world. According to the research by both European and American bodies, the risk of mortality from obesity is lower at a body mass index of 25 to 30 g2m2 in people who do not smoke while and 24 to 27 g2m2 in smokers. The Asian Research has it that the risk of obesity starts to increase at a range of 22 to 25 g2m2. Also, the research recorded that a body mass index of 32 g2m2 increases the mortality rate by double digits among women over the age of sixteen years. Again, body mass index of 30 to 35 g2m2 reduces the life expectancy by two to four years while a range greater than forty reduces the life expectancy by ten years ('Erratum', 2015).
Causes
The causative agents of obesity are several and scientists have come up with their classification into physical, social, and psychological. Reports on obesity cannot rely on the classifications because almost all causes lack scientific evidence to support their classifications. In general, the currently known causative factors of obesity are the excessive intake of energetic foodstuffs, inadequate physical exercises as many people adopt the sedentary lifestyle, and hereditary genitival factors. Others are psychiatric illnesses or medical reasons, palatable and easily accessible diet, over reliance on cars to travel and mechanized manufacturing, overuse of processed foods, and minimal stress among people ('Issue information', 2015).
Another research on the causes of obesity came up with several other reasons that are hypothesized to cause the increasing cases of obesity in the world. The reasons were insufficient sleep among people due to the busy world, environmental pollutions that release substances that interfere with the metabolism of the body lipids and endocrine disruptors. Reduction in the variability of ambient temperature, low rates of smoking because appetite is highly suppressed by smoking, medications that initiate gaining of weight that are common today, and increase in age group and ethnics that tend to have more body weight. Other factors in the research by scientists found that many women tend to get pregnant at later ages that may make children susceptible to obesity. Also, epigenetic factors that are passed to the new generation, the natural way of selecting a high body mass index, and cases of assortative mating th...
