I need to teach an english grammar lesson and I will be observed. I want it to be really good. The kids need to build a zoo using nouns, verbs and adjectives. I want to give them a big white poster board and tell them to divide the board into four squares. each square will be a animal cage. I want them to design each cage for a specific animal by completing an assignment that involves nouns, verbs and adjectives. Please be creative.

In teaching the English Grammar lesson as in all lessons, the teacher should be adequately prepared. A key part of the preparation is determining the expected entry behavior of learners to ensure their readiness for the lesson. The teacher should also determine the necessary educational goals and aims as pertaining to that particular lesson. This lesson will be concerned with teaching learners English nouns, verbs and adjectives and their usage. The lesson will attempt to ensure that learners can recognize these, and adequately utilize them in sentences. The educational objectives for the lesson will be, by the end of the lesson the learner should be able to;
1 To identify nouns, the different categories of nouns and their usage in sentences.
2 To identify verbs and correctly utilize them in a sentence.
3 To identify adjectives and correctly utilize them in a sentence
Noting that this is an entry level class with regard to their command of English. The class will mainly deal with the fundamentals as pertaining to nouns, verbs and adjectives. The initial part of the lesson will be a recap of the previous lesson. The recap will allow the teacher to determine the level of understanding for learners of the previous lesson work. The recap further provides an opportunity to reinforce the lessons learnt in previous lessons.
The next step would be to inform learners of the topic for the day. The teacher would write down the lesson topic on the board. The teacher then provides a rationale for the topic. The rationale in this instance being the importance of learning the topic. By providing the rationale the teacher motivates the learner. The rationale would for example be; the lesson content will allow learners to improve on their language capabilities both written and spoken. However, the teacher should phrase this in a manner that is at per with the learners’ level.
The next step would be to introduce the different parts of speech. The teacher should naturally be aware that there are 8 parts of speech. However, the lesson will deal with only 3 of these. The introduction should inform learners as to the essence on learning these parts of speech. Noting that the learner will understand and appreciate how words function grammatically in a sentence and their meaning.
The first part of speech would be a Noun. It is the easiest to understand. Thus, keeping with pedagogical theories, the teacher will move from the simplest to the most difficult. The teacher informs learners that a noun is quite simply the name of a person, place, thing, or idea. To ensure understanding, the teacher should utilize examples that learners can relate with. Thus, e.g. since nouns are names of people, the teacher should give examples of learners names. Nouns are names of places, thus, the teacher should give names of places the learner interacts with e.g. classroom, office, and hallway etc. in doing this, the learner quickly grasps the foundational concept of Parts of Speech.
The second part of speech for the lesson would be the verb. The verb is the name of an action, it expresses an action, and can also be defined as “a doing word.” Since verbs denote an action, the teacher should carry out an action and require that the leaners name the action e.g. running, lifting, writing, walking et cetera. Many verbs have the suffix “ing” however, there are many other verbs that do not have it. E.g. thought, walked, ran etc. these are verbs that denote an action in the past tense.
