ALS Foundation is a non-profit organization which aims at improving the quality of life of the communities living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) disease, a condition also known as motor neuron Disease (MND) or Lou Gehring’s disease. This is a unique disease that mainly results in damage or death of neurons which are involved in controlling voluntary muscles ('Ice Bucket Challenge' Sweeps America, 2014). The ALS foundation is mainly involved in raising money through charity work to help in research with the aim of discovering the cure or prevention for ALS disease.
The ALS non-profit foundation conducts various charity events with the aim of raising fund for supporting health improvement and bettering the lives of patients with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis disorder. The organizations play a major role in fighting the disease through support of global research on appropriate approaches and creating awareness of the disease existence, impacts, and control to the members of the public through various events like the ALS ice bucket challenge. The American nonprofit organization is directly involved in raising money for conducting medical research, provision of patient services, and promotion of public awareness for control and management of the condition (Ellysa, 2014). The association is also involved in advocating state and federal government on issues concerning amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) so that the affected individuals can receive the necessary support.
The LAS organization is a charitable nonprofit association whose activities are based on having fun while at the same time providing moral, emotional, physical, and financial support for the target group. All the activities conducted in these organizations focus on health improvement of the affected patient and support for research for disease control, management, and treatment. The yearly conducted events involve “Walk to Defeat ALS” with the events being held every season through springs by the association’s local chapter in cities across United States thus managing to raise about $220 million for the support of the initiatives. The major partners of the organization that have contributed to its success include Answer ALS, Target ALS, and ALS One which contribute fund and resources for research forum of the ALS organization (Reddy, 2014).
Different members of the ALS nonprofit organization play different roles in creating awareness toward Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis disease. The association has merged with other local organizations to enhance their ability to reach a larger population in the creation of awareness initiative (Jimmy, 2007). The activities conducted by the members of the ALS Association are the major events that are involved in the creation of awareness. Different groups have come up with different approaches in creating awareness toward existence, management, and treatment of the disease and managed to raise fund to support the associated research.
