This business plan should be written as if you, as a group of GW college students, are going to start a new business together. It can be anything from a food truck to an APP-based service. This is a new business idea you are proposing, so essentially you are pitching an “idea”.  It can be anything!
In order to get started, watch at least 5 episodes of Shark Tank, especially episodes with younger entrepreneurs. If you do a quick Google search for the term, "shark tank college entrepreneurs" you will find various Shark Tank videos with college students pitching their business ideas to the Sharks.
Write a 5-page proposal for a “Shark Tank” type pitch/idea. You must discuss:
 1) what is your idea,  2) what is your business plan, 3) and how much investment you are looking for in exchange for equity (% of the proposed company you are willing to give up in exchange for the “ask” i.e. investment)
In doing so you will learn about crucial entrepreneurial skills, investing, equity, creating products  and services, and business models.
Write the paper as if you are making a pitch to a VC (venture capitalist) investor for seed money.  The goal is to try and get your idea across as CLEARLY AS POSSIBLE. It is best to articulate your idea on the first page (in the Executive Summary) and then dive into the details.
The 5 page proposal should include: 1) Executive summary -- a snapshot of your proposed business idea 2) Company description -- describes what you want to do 3) Service or product – what is the product or service you are proposing   4) Market analysis - research on your industry, market and competitors and where your idea fits in 5) Organization and management -- your business model and management structure 6) Marketing and sales -- how you’ll market your business and your sales strategy 7) Financial projections – do a 3 year financial plan (be realistic) (see below for more details)   8) Funding request -- how much money are you asking for and for what purpose 9) Equity exchange – how much of your proposed company are you willing to exchange for the $ you are asking for (be realistic) AND WHY (justify the exchange).  How much do you think your business is going to be worth in 3 years (this is important because you are going to ask an investor for a $ amount in exchange for a % of equity of your new business) and you should explain your rationale.
THE 3 YEAR FINANCIAL PLAN SHOULD INCLUDE: 1) Your Fixed Costs 2) Your Variable Costs 3) Your Gross And Net Revenue 4) Your Profit And Loss 5) Your Breakeven Point (Analysis) 6) How Much Do You Think Your Business Is Going To Be Worth In 3 Years (this is important because you are going to ask an investor for a $ amount in exchange for a % of equity of your business).  7) How Much $ Are You Asking The “Shark” Investor In Exchange For How Much Of Equity % In Your Company?
The paper is a max 5 pages single spaced (charts, graphs, pictures must all be included in the 5 page limit).
Please review the following links, BUT you must also watch 5 episodes of Shark Tank
