In a situation where an employee reports being upset because she felt sexually harassed repeatedly by a male co-worker asking her out on dates, as the manager I would take the complaint seriously by taking the following steps. The first step is to listen attentively to the employee even if the complaints appear to be questionable. I will acknowledge the employees' complain and help her understand that these are some of the challenges at work. During the interview, it is important to keep a neutral perspective. As a manager, it is my role to avoid making judgments but gather important facts about the complaint as suggested by (McDonald, 2012).
As the manager, I will be neutral by giving a chance to the male coworker to defend himself from the allegations made against him. I will interview the male co-worker to gather more information about the complaint. During the interview, I will also remind the employee about the existing code of conduct and bring to his attention some of the possible consequences of his action. The role of human resource management is to promote the welfare of all workers. Therefore, it will be prudent to conduct comprehensive investigations before making a final decision (McDonald, Charlesworth & Graham, 2015).
