EXERCISE 16 AND DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS EXCEL WORKSHEET Name: Course: Professor Name: (March 01, 2012) Exercise 16 and Descriptive Statistics Excel Worksheet The researcher analyzed the data they collected as though it were at what level of measurement? Answer is a. The analyzed data is collected as though it was in the NOMINAL level of measurement (Grove, 2007). What was the mean post tests empowerment score for the control group? The average or mean of the post tests empowerment score for the control group was 97.12 Compare the mean baseline and post test depression scores of the experimental group. Was this an expected finding? Provide a rationale for your answer. The mean of the baseline depression score for the experimental group was 14.00 while the mean of the post tests depression score for the control group was 13.36. The means are almost the same only a difference of 0.64 which may be caused by minor errors in the experiment. This is an expected finding given that it is the experimental group that will be used for the study and the study hypothesized that after the completion of the program depression would improve. The findings indicate that the empowerment program had a positive impact on the individuals and hence reduced depression (Grove, 2007). Compare the mean baseline and post test depression scores of the control group. Do these scores strengthen or weaken the validity of the research results? Provide a rationale for your answer. The mean baseline depression scores of the control group was 97.08 while the mean post test depression scores of the control group is 97.12 (Grove, 2007). The difference of the two means was 0.04 points as the post tests mean was higher than the baseline depression mean of the control group. This was an unexpected result since the control group should show similar results to the experimental group. The means indicate that the program had a negative impact on the samples and that the program was not successful since it contributed to a higher figure of depression. Which group’s test scores had the least amount of variability or dispersion? Provide a rationale for your answer. Variability or dispersion can be identified from the standard deviation, variance or mean differences. In this case the standard deviation is applied where the p...
